Legacy Dance & Gymnastics COVID-19 Response
As you may know, North Platte Public School District has cancelled school starting Monday. NPPS are taking this next week for an extended Spring Break. We had a week scheduled for Spring Break in April - we will move that to this week so it coincides with their break. We will take the week to clean and disinfect all the studios, gym, bathrooms, hallways, etc... and also to prepare for the possibility that they may extend the break beyond one week. If that happens we will move to alternative classes online until social distancing is lifted. This week will let us figure all that out.
Starting next week, if the break continues then classes at Legacy Dance & Gymnastics will be changing to an online module to allow our students to continue their training and have some similar form of routine and exercise. I will be working with instructors over this weekend on preparing the online modules and will get the information out to you on how it will work asap.
I would like to remind my Legacy families:
Your family has deeply invested time into this training so please do not allow their skills to diminish during this break. We can continue training online and then resume back into the studio and gym having progressed during this temporary situation.
More than ever our kids will need to get some exercise and physical activity. This is key to staying healthy and happy!
Having our kids stick to their routine (even if their dance and gymnastics classes are now at home) helps reduce anxiety for our kids. I know personally my kids are sad knowing all the different activities, competitions and other things that all just got cancelled in one day. It was a huge blow.
There are some HUGE benefits of having class online such as you can access it any time. Not only that, they can access it multiple times a week! This is like getting many classes for the price of just one.
Answers to questions you may have:
How will the online dance and gymnastics classes work?
I have been researching this for the last week and still need a few more days to make my plan of action final. You will receive weekly links to lessons for your specific class that will have you learning technique, learning your recital choreography, working on flexibility, conditioning and some fun extras! I will also be implementing ways for you to send in questions to the instructors, for the tweens to communicate and share their videos of them practicing choreography, conditioning and free styling. I will send out some additional links so kids can try some different styles while at home. For example if your kid is in a tap and ballet combo, I will send video links for their class and an additional hip hop video for their age that they can dance to. All of these video will be under a private setting so only those involved can view. And of course for those who want to email me their videos of them dancing at home, I would love to post them to encourage everyone out there to keep at it.
What about the Gymnastics Programs?
We at Legacy are still planning on our programs in May. We will use the online classes to teach simple routines for the gymnasts to learn for program week and having them online means they can practice over and over. In addition they will get instruction on proper form and strength and conditioning.
What about the Dance Recital?
We at Legacy Dance Studio are moving forward as planned toward an end of the season recital to showcase our amazing performers and all of their hard work. These students deserve it! As I mentioned above, we will continue learning recital choreography with the online classes and go from there. We have options, but with school being moved back to May 27th (at least... it messes up the date we had scheduled) so I will wait to see the final date for end of break and then plan a new date. I am researching options and will reassess in a month. We don't have to rush and decide now.
What about costumes?
All costumes have been ordered and I will continue to receive them as they come in. We can do private fittings for those costumes that arrive during our online class session or we can wait until classes resume in the studio.
What about competition teams and fees?
I will address these students in a separate email coming soon.
Please email me any questions or ideas you may have. I know if we stay positive and work together we can ride this out and get our amazing lives back to normal.
I look forward to communicating with you again soon on our new adventure of online training!

P.S. On a side note for those of you needing child care - Legacy has amazing trustworthy teens and young adults that may be willing to help. I am happy to connect those who need child care with those who are available to watch children. Let me know if this is a need you have or if you are willing to babysit.
Legacy Dance & Gymnastics began in North Platte, Nebraska in the fall of 2004. It has been growing steadily and is constantly stretching and changing to meet the needs of the families we work with. It began as The Stage Christian Dance Studio and grew in 2014 when we stepped out in faith and purchased Starz Gymnastics. After a couple years we merged the 2 together as Legacy Dance & Gymnastics. We are in our 16th year and are incredibly excited to see where God takes us this year! We are starting out 2019 in our new location at 3191 Studley Rd right off Hall School Rd. Come check it out!
